We are so happy that the neighbor’hood’ has inspired architecture, that ‘folks’ can call home.
Kelly and Calvin have triumphed the mountian of ‘designing’ their intown home.
But if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
Keep the spirit, there is road ahead!
Remember to raise a glass to each step forward, and just forget the backsteps!

The styling is excitingly contemporary and the details I’m sure will be impressive. Now…where will I be staying this summer? Also, I’m sure it’s an oversight but I dont see in the plans where you will be installing the keggerator?

hello-great images and concept-i am building a modern home in michigan 49106—a question ,i want to use virco-what did you stain it with and then seal it with what product thanks, tom gathman–take a look at my artwork—–www.thomasgathmangallery.com

Hey Tom – we actually didn’t end up using the viroc, but I think you can stain fairly easily. You can use what you would typically stain concrete with since it’s a cementitious fiberboard. Did I answer your question correctly?

your house is awesome. I am very interested in knowing what material was used for your siding.

Thanks

Thanks Matt – kind words indeed. The house is Hardy panel. Same product they use on typical house construction except not siding. It floats off the house just slightly with the use of furring strips. The idea is it’s supposed to “breathe” allowing water to get behind but dry. Also keeps the house cooler.

My partner and I drover down Corley and noticed your wonderful home. I believe we looked at that same lot a few years back, but didn’t have your guts to purchase and put a modern home on it. Of course now with all that’s going on in the area we’re thinking about making the jump now. Are you finding the area safe ‘enough’, especially at night.

Noticed your blog about your terrible experience with Harry Cardile. We too continue to suffer due to doing business with him. Through Braselton Custom Homes, he got us to buy lot on the Golf Course on their behalf, which they were to purchase within 18 months. That was three years ago, and BCH has not come through at all. This man really has some serious issues with honesty, and following through on contracts. I would never do business with him or his partner at BCh again, yet I understand they are still connected to the Atlanta Real estate industry.

I saw in an early post you were considering using Viroc for the flooring but it looks as though you went with walnut instead (which looks great). I was considering using the viroc as flooring in my home and was wondering your reason for opting not to use it… do you know something about it that I don’t know?

calvinflorian - December 27, 2009

Hey Josh – sorry it has taken a minute to get back to you on this. Main reason was the unknown cost. Sure, we could price out Viroc, but the cost of install on a material that not many install was hard to figure quickly. There was a learning curve for anyone we approached. Plus things were moving at a face pace…we had to make decisions quickly, sometimes too quickly.

During that same time we were in touch with a flooring guy who had all of this excess Walnut #2 that he was willing to discount. The look of it was so unique it really added to the house and warmed everything up. Can’t imagine it any differently.
